Muzeyi Ashraf is one of a kind. His story is one of resilience, determination and hard work. Ashraf has come a long way, rising from a back ground characterized by mental health challenges and drug misuse. Today Ashraf is pursuing his secondary education.
We met Ashraf at one of his lowest moments. He was suicidal, and had given up on his life. Turning his life around wasn’t easy. It took almost eight months to help him regain self-confidence and him back on track. During this time, he worked hard to overcome drug use, got himself in shape and eventually managed to enroll him school. Along the way, we interacted with him on the prospect of combining a skill to his education and he liked the idea.
We helped him join a skills development center and joined the carpentry program that he truly enjoys doing. While he is still
on the journey, his progress is clear. With the little pay from his carpentry works, Ashraf is able to subsidize on the scholastic materials he gets from the organization which help him to have a smooth time at school. He has prospects of venturing into rearing domestic birds so that he is able to lift up his other siblings as well.
Ashraf juggles between school and his carpentry work during the weekends and school holidays. If all goes well, he will be sitting for his Uganda Certificate of Education exams this year
