In the heart of Bwaise, where strength and resilience define everyday life, Obuyisi bw'Omu Initiative was born in 2023 out of a deep desire to give back. We've always believed in the power of community—in standing together, lifting each other up, and creating change from within.
Now, for the first time since our founding, we are launching our biggest community giveback ever, and we need you to help us make it real. This is about more than just helping with school supplies. It's about helping children break the cycle of poverty and creating a future where all children—no matter their background—have the opportunity to thrive.
Our goal
Equip 600 children with hope
Education is a right—but for too many children in Bwaise, the lack of basic school materials and hygiene essentials becomes a barrier to learning, confidence, and growth. We're raising $20,000 to support 600 children, from nursery to secondary school, for the second and third school terms of 2026.
Each child will receive:
- Scholastic materials: exercise books, pens, pencils, rulers, school bags, and more.
- Hygiene items: sanitary pads, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other personal care items.
By equipping these young learners with the tools they need to succeed, we're not just handing out supplies—we're restoring dignity, building dreams, and breaking cycles of poverty.
Why it matters now

Bwaise is a community that has faced its fair share of hardship, yet it is also filled with strength, unity, and resilience. The children here are eager to learn and better their lives, but they often don't have access to the most basic resources. They shouldn't have to choose between going to school and staying home because they lack hygiene supplies, pens, or books.
When a girl doesn't have to miss school due to a lack of sanitary pads, or when a boy walks into class with a proper school bag for the first time—something changes. Confidence grows. Hope takes root.

The plan
From your gift to a child's desk in 13 weeks
- Weeks 1–2
Identify and verify the children, map their needs, and collect safeguarding consent.
- Weeks 3–4
Buy supplies in bulk through competitive quotes and check every item into inventory.
- Week 5
A community “Giving Day” in Bwaise, where the children receive their kits.
- Weeks 6–12
Track school attendance and collect feedback from children, parents and teachers.
- Week 13+
Full financial reporting, and an impact report shared with every funding partner.
Accountability
How we look after your gift
Financial oversight
Funds are managed by OBI's Operations Manager under established standard operating procedures.
Fraud prevention
Every release of funds needs two authorisations, with separate people buying and paying.
Fair procurement
Materials are bought through competitive bidding, so each dollar goes as far as possible.
Child safeguarding
Formal child protection policies and strict data privacy rules apply across all our work.
